The SDG Summit Curtain Raiser organized by the UN Foundation aims to set the stage for the SDG Summit in September 2023. This event is all about unlocking intergenerational power to work with and for young people, the changemakers of today and tomorrow, to influence the course of global action towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
It’s a chance to share your perspectives and ideas with influential policymakers, and young champions as they take the world stage at the SDG Summit. It’s an early preview into the SDG Summit program, and the opportunity to speak your truth and make an impact.
The United Nations commemorates this year’s International Day of Peace Youth Observation as a hybrid event. Participants will interact with young leaders and activists to inspire youth involvement in creating a more peaceful world. This year’s theme is Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals. Towards the SDG Summit 2023, OSGEY alongside MGCY & ICMYO facilitated a youth-led meaningful youth engagement roadmap that included a series of consultations. The process will culminate in the SDG Action Weekend, particularly during the “Torchbearers for the SDGs: Meaningful Youth Engagement & the 2030 Agenda” session. To generate additional opportunities for the engagement of all actors, the Secretary-General of the United Nations is convening the Summit of the Future Action Days on 20 and 21 September 2024 at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Bringing together representatives from Member States, civil society, private sector, academia, local and regional authorities, creative communities, youth, and many more, everyone will be present, included and engaged during the Action Days. These stakeholders have all played a key role in shaping the Pact for the Future and will be critical to its implementation. Their participation, contributions and catalytic mobilization will be essential to the success of the Summit of the Future and its follow-up. Expected participants include Heads of State, Ministers, senior UN officials and representatives from the private sector, civil society and other actors.
The Action Days are an opportunity to elevate the voice of youth in the multilateral system. Youth are key participants in efforts to secure breakthroughs in global cooperation. Youth challenge conventional thinking, hold leaders to account and are focused on generations that come after us. Youth stand to lose the most if global leaders fail to fulfil their promises. The Action Days will kick off with a dedicated, youth-led afternoon facilitated by the United Nations Youth Office in close collaboration with relevant networks/stakeholder groups to generate momentum ahead of the mandated Summit. The day will be convened under the theme of “#YouthLead for the Future: We believe in the promise of a better world for all”.
The Summit of the Future is a high-level event, bringing world leaders together to forge a new international consensus on how we deliver a better present and safeguard the future.
