GeSI, the Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative, is launching a report “Digital with Purpose: Delivering a SMARTer2030” during the United Nations General Assembly 74 and Climate Week 2019. The report, developed by Deloitte together with the GeSI membership, builds upon previous work to assess the potential for digital technologies to enable the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable economy and drive attainment of the SDGs.

The report documents the causal drivers of impact between key digital technologies and the SDGs, models these impacts for a selection of critical targets, assesses the technology sector’s footprint in terms of economic value add, emissions, e-waste, and other negative externalities; and presents an overarching narrative for maximising this impact to 2030.

The report is targeted to business leaders, policymakers and citizens, and recommends a number of critical conditions and actions to maximize progress against the Goals in advance of 2030.
