Champions of the Earth and Young Champions of the Earth Award Ceremony
By UN Environment Programme
Champions of the Earth is the United Nations’ flagship global environmental award. It was established by the UN Environment Programme in 2005 to celebrate outstanding figures whose actions have had a transformative positive impact on the environment.
Since its launch in 2005, the annual award has recognized 88 laureates, ranging from heads of state to grassroots activists. From world leaders to environmental defenders to technology inventors, these trailblazers are making a difference to protect our planet for the next generation and have inspired critical action on behalf of the environment.
Young Champions of the Earth is a global competition that seeks out entrepreneurs and innovators aged 18–30 with big ideas to secure a sustainable future. All these ideas address urgent environmental issues in bold and creative ways. The prize brings their projects to life by providing seed funding and a year-long mentoring programme. Seven young champions will receive their awards at the gala dinner.
