On Thursday, Sept. 23, Devex will host an ecosystem event on the sidelines of the 76th annual United Nations General Assembly in partnership with Gilead, exploring how new access models can allow for more coordinated and targeted approaches. Discussions will draw on lessons learned from the pandemic and beyond on how to best support more resilient health systems, and ultimately ensure progress on universal health coverage and the health-related Sustainable Development Goals.

UN International Day of Peace Youth Observance
The International Day of Peace Youth Observance is organized by the United Nations Department of Global Communications, and will take place online with the participation of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Messengers of Peace and students from around the world.
The theme for this year’s International Day of Peace is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”.
The Tipping Point: The State of the Amazon & the Bioeconomy Future
This event, hosted by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) & the Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA), will present an overview of the state of the Amazon, assessing the risk of the climate tipping points in the region, and the paradox between the Amazon’s extraordinary socio-biodiversity and its distance from the scientific, technological, and market frontier of the contemporary bioeconomy. Speakers will present an in-depth discussion on what the “tipping points” mean for the Amazon and the global world, the need for conservation and restoration, as well as challenges and pathways that exist to transition to a socially-fair and sustainable bioeconomy.
Peer Learning Forum: Climate Action – Engaging Your Leaders
Business in the Community (BITC) members who have pre-paid environment advisory days are invited to share practical ideas and opportunities to engage leaders in climate action. This peer learning forum is designed to help people and organisations in their preparations for COP26.
UN Deputy Secretary-General’s Virtual Youth Dialogue on Climate
This event is part of a dialogue series that serves to connect representatives of the youth population with the Deputy Secretary-General to discuss thematic issues ranging from climate to innovation and equality to health. The youth speakers are thematic experts and come from diverse backgrounds and regions. They include but are not limited to representatives from grassroots movements, international organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector.
Raising the alarm: A conversation on preventing the next global health crisis with Raj Panjabi
Devex is hosting a live conversation with Raj Panjabi, the U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator and co-founder of NGO Last Mile Health. This conversation, led by Sara Jerving, global health reporter for Devex and part of Devex’s UHC Pavilion, comes as global leaders meet for the 76th United Nations General Assembly. High on the UNGA agenda will be how to address the current COVID-19 pandemic and how to prevent the next global health crisis.
Immunization Agenda 2030 High-Level Side Event
After a year that saw one of the first significant slips in childhood vaccination rates in decades, an ambitious global strategy to maximize the lifesaving impact of vaccines launched in April: Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030). Now, the UN Foundation, WHO, UNICEF, and Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance are teaming up to host a high-level event during UNGA to socialize and build political momentum for IA2030 in the context of the SDGs. As background, IA2030 aims to halve the number of children who completely miss out on essential vaccines, achieve 500 introductions of new or underused vaccines in low- and middle-income countries, and achieve 90% coverage for key lifesaving vaccines.

SDG Moment
Convened by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the Moment will provide world leaders with a platform to showcase the bold plans, actions and solutions that are needed to end the COVID-19 pandemic and set the world on course towards achieving the SDGs. The event will include more than 30 Heads of State, a key debate with UN leaders on the COVID-19 Response and Recovery and a musical performance by K-pop band BTS, Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generation and Culture of the President of the Republic of Korea.
