#GreenEquality

Unplanned and poorly managed urban development leads to increasing inequality, growing poverty, and disastrous impacts on the environment. Cities and metropolitan areas account for around 70% of global carbon emissions and more than 60% of resource use. This day seeks to raise awareness about the urgent need to promote and act for a #GreenEquality that makes cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable places.

Global Day Of Act4SDG

As part of the #GlobalDayofAct4SDGs, we invite you to highlight the achievements and increase the knowledge of people and organizations on how to materialize the 17 SDGs and their 169 goals. There needs to be a new commitment from all of us to ensure a sustainable recovery that reduces carbon emissions, conserves natural resources, creates better jobs, promotes gender equality, and addresses growing poverty and inequalities.

#NetZero

Time is running out for climate justice and science warns us that we must limit global warming to 1.5° C. To do this, net greenhouse gas emissions must be zero by mid-century. That is why we encourage everyone to continue to raise their voices to respond to climate change, protect biodiversity, stop humanity’s war against nature and accelerate efforts to achieve the SDGs on this #ZeroNet day.

#PlanetarySecurity

This day invites us to think creatively and collectively on how to help everyone recover from COVID-19 and build resilience, and how to transform our world to be more egalitarian, fair, equitable, inclusive, sustainable and healthy.

Therefore, on this day of #PlanetarySecurity we advocate to recover better and achieve a more equitable and peaceful world.

#Harmony With Nature

The biodiversity of our planet is the basis of human well-being, but its rapid decline threatens nature and people alike. The United Nations has identified the main global factors driving the loss of biodiversity: climate change, invasive species, overexploitation of natural resources, pollution and urbanization. On this day of #HarmonyWithNature, we seek to carry out actions that allow us to create awareness about the radical changes that we need from people and industries.

#Sustainable Energy

Over the past decade, the use of renewable energy in the electricity sector has increased, improving energy efficiency. Still, millions of people lack electricity and a third of the world’s population uses cooking systems that are dangerous and inefficient. The COVID-19 pandemic is erasing what has been achieved, causing millions of people to lose access to electricity. On this day, let’s seek to inspire, connect and mobilize actions in favor of #SustainableEnergy.

#SustainableFood

Food systems affect all aspects of human existence. The health of our food systems has a profound impact on the health of our bodies, as well as the health of our environment, our economies and our cultures. When they work well, food systems have the power to unite as families, communities and nations.

This day seeks to make visible why a transformation towards #SustainableFood could lead us to a path of achievement of SDG 2 and 3.

#BluePlanet

With 90% of the large marine fish species depleted and 50% of coral reefs destroyed, we are extracting more from the ocean than what can be replenished. To protect and preserve the ocean and all that it sustains, we must create a new balance, rooted in a true understanding of the ocean and how humanity relates to it.

On this day of #BluePlanet we seek to highlight the interrelationship between SDGs 6 and 14.

#Sustainable Recovery

The global economy is experiencing its worst recession in 90 years, disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable sectors. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an even more marked uneven world. Therefore, this day seeks to lead actions that inspire, connect and mobilize people and organizations from all sectors in favor of a #SustainableRecovery that reduces carbon emissions by up to 25%, as well as to reverse the damages done to the global indicators for the end of poverty.

#2030Now

To commemorate the start of the #GlobalDayofAct4SDGs, we accelerate the implementation, monitoring, financing, follow-up, socialization and evaluation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the SDGs within the framework of the Decade of Action. We urge people and organizations from all sectors to rethink the five areas of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership to undertake actions that reinforce their message and inspire.

Toward a Global South Agenda in Open Data and Public Information

We want to stimulate knowledge on open data publishing standards and improvement strategies, and promote a strategic alliance in the Global South for open data standardization.

Sustainable Development Impact Summit

For over a year, countries have struggled to address a pandemic that respects no borders, destroys lives and livelihoods, and deepens pre-existing global challenges like inequality, climate change and education. With less than a decade left to meet the Sustainable Development Goals, the fully virtual Sustainable Development Impact Summit 2021, hosted alongside the United Nations General Assembly, will bring together global leaders from diverse sectors, disciplines and geographies. Ensuring the world exits the pandemic stronger than it entered it will only be possible if leaders work together across sectors and borders to share and deploy know-how, innovation and promising approaches and accelerate the recovery.

In this Twitter chat we look at examples of how people and organisations around the world are accelerating action on Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG14) which focuses on oceans and life below water. Join us in a solutions-focused chat!
