Over the course of three days during the UN General Assembly, the SDG Action Zone brings together the highest levels of UN leadership, activists, government officials, business leaders, changemakers and disruptors in a virtual collaborative space – to highlight the ecosystem-wide solutions, plans, and investments needed to positively impact people’s lives and the future of our planet.
Imagining a Greener Future is a conversation aimed at bringing together thought leaders from across professional sectors to discuss the role imagination has in exploring the UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as climate action, and the impact of climate change on people’s lives and prosperity. This 50-minute digital dialogue, hosted by the Financial Times in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), will bring financial regulators, supervisors, central banks, scientists, NGOs and policymakers together to discuss the mobilization of mainstream finance in support of the transition to a sustainable global economy. Discussion will zero in on the preventative and preemptive actions central banks and supervisors can take now, the importance of addressing climate change and nature loss simultaneously, and the financial instruments that will incentivize swift and systemic change.
At the 2022 General Assembly, the United Nations and the World Bank will convene global leaders to explore how new data ecosystems can unlock exponential value for the big challenges of our time.
Moderated by Folly Bah Thibault, and co-hosted by Amina Mohammed, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General and Mari Pangestu, World Bank Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships, the event will feature top leaders from governments, the private sector, multilateral institutions, academia, and foundations. Following an open call for applications for the 2022-2024 Class of 17 Young Leaders for the SDGs, which resulted in 5,434 total applications submitted from 194 countries, the UN Envoy on Youth is excited to announce that the next class of Young Leaders for the SDGs will be held on 21 September 2022, with the support of a High-Level Selection Committee. These remarkable young change-makers are recognized for their ability to inspire and mobilize their constituents. Stay tuned for the announcement!

During this event, the Food Security Information Network will present a mid-year update on the 2022 Global Report on Food Crises. Following the presentation will be roundtable discussions which will provide an opportunity, ahead of the UN General Assembly, to raise awareness of the shocking levels of acute food insecurity and discuss how we can tackle these crises through collective action and promote solutions needed to immediately avert and prevent famine.
Every month, Africa Forward engages with key stakeholders in the community on key topics that will move Africa forward. Africa Forward seeks to strengthen social entrepreneurship on the continent through creating an enabling environment of social enterprise. This session will focus on the power of social innovators in creating sustainable livelihoods across the continent in pursuit of the SDGs.

SDGs Spotlight is a social media engagement campaign to raise awareness for the Sustainable Development Goals and engage and educate people to become actors of change.
Climate, energy, food and global security are more connected than ever. Events this year have exposed the fragility of our systems and the risks posed by our short-term decision-making when faced with competing and connected global challenges. How we tackle these challenges together is one of the biggest questions of our time.
We need to put people at the heart of our climate transition. We need real, serious plans and action. Political policies must promote prosperity for all people. Business strategies must support all of society. The rewards of investing in people, equity and justice are clear.
This session will focus on setting targets for future job and skill access; scaling up money for clean infrastructure, resilient food systems, and smart technologies; rethinking how we invest in a fairer, greener, and cleaner global economy; and shifting political and business strategies from debate to delivery.
This Model United Nations debate, taking place on September 24, 2022, will focus on the question of providing accessible and affordable internet access throughout developing regions. The requirements to join are that you have ability to log into Zoom, that you are high school aged (ages 14-18), that you are able to conduct 4-6 hours of preparation prior to the debate, and that you agree to MUN Impact’s Code of Conduct.
This Model United Nations debate, taking place on September 10, 2022, will focus on the question of ensuring access to affordable, equitable and quality education for all indigenous peoples. The requirements to join are that you have ability to log into Zoom, that you are high school aged (ages 14-18), that you are able to conduct 4-6 hours of preparation prior to the debate, and that you agree to MUN Impact’s Code of Conduct.
YOUNGA® is the largest global festival for impact. Using mixed reality, YOUNGA unites young people with decision-makers to co-create solutions for a more inclusive, sustainable world during the United Nations Decade of Action from 2020 to 2030.
